Superior Morality

I have recently been infuriated by the policy of sending billions of dollars to aid countries where the people burn our flag and shout “death to America”.  I know that this has been a policy for many years and through most administrations both Republican and Democrat alike.  I understand the need for America to assist those less fortunate however; when our country is suffering financially (regardless of the reason) this policy becomes irresponsible. But, why do we want to help those who appear to despise us?  I think we need to look at why they do not like Americans as a whole, our sense of Superior Morality.

Even though many people around the world believe in a collective thought rather than individualism, I believe that Americans should have a sense of superior morality. We believe in respecting everyone's moral belief regardless whether we agree with it or not. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and that freedom for an individual to believe in their own thoughts is what our country is based on.

The enemies which our country face today believe that attacks on America are motivated by the belief that the United States foreign policy has oppressed, killed, or otherwise harmed Muslims around the world and not due to religiously inspired hatred of American culture.  This may or may not be true but, that belief does appear to be skewed for one reason of another.  If the United States foreign policy was in place to oppress Muslims then the actions in Kosovo during the war in 1999 would not have taken place.  The United States would not have sent its military there in order to protect the Muslim population from the ethnic cleansing which was occurring.

Americans around the world enjoy a freedom which radical Muslims fear.  They fear that an individual has the right to disagree.  They fear that woman share rights equally with men.  The terrorist organizations are afraid that their power to dominate subjects will be lost and that they will lose the ability to control through fear.  This is why they conduct cowardly attacks against innocent men, women and children.

Americans do portray a sense of superior morality.  At times we can be arrogant and that may be portrayed in a negative light however, it is not done on purpose in order to flaunt our freedoms.  It is a sense of complacency to an extent, an entitlement of our freedoms which is guaranteed to each of us.  Each citizen has a right to be an individual, a right to their own beliefs and morals.  The majority of us are taught right from wrong and to respect others beliefs but, whether we choose to follow what we are taught or choose our own path is clearly up to each individual and it is that concept which America’s enemies cannot or choose not to comprehend.
